BeginnerWoodProjects.com exists to get a complete beginner from "I would like to make something out of wood" to a finished object, without a workshop, a machine budget, or a wasted stack of timber.
Why it exists
Beginner woodworking has two reliable failure points. The first is the tool aisle, where a list of forty items stands between someone and a project that actually needs eight. The second is halfway through a build, when a step quietly assumes a table saw, a router, or a technique nobody explained. Both are avoidable, and both are what this site is organised around: a short honest tool list, and project guides that name every tool and every step before you start rather than in the middle.
How the guides are put together
- One page owns one question. We do not publish five near-identical pages for "easy", "simple" and "beginner" versions of the same thing. Where the answer is the same, there is one page and it is a better page.
- Numbers are bands, or they are absent. Times and costs are given as ranges because the same shelf takes an hour with a mitre box and three without one, and timber prices differ by country and by week. Where a figure would be a guess, we say what it depends on instead of inventing one.
- Safety is written conservatively and sourced. General power-tool safety guidance on this site is aligned with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's home power-tool safety advice, and every project names the point at which the right answer is to stop and get help. Our guidance supplements the manuals that came with your tools; it never replaces them.
- Every claim has to survive a question. If we cannot say why something is true, it does not go on the page. That is why you will not find load ratings for shelves, cure times stated to the hour for a finish we cannot see, or a promise that a project is safe for everyone.
What we do not claim
- We are not a trade body, a licensed contractor, a structural engineer, or a safety certifier, and nothing here is professional advice.
- We do not publish invented reviews, star ratings, testimonials, or counts of readers, projects or years of experience. If you see a number on this site, it is a dimension, a grit, a time band, or a cost band.
- We do not claim to have independently tested every tool we mention. Where a page points at a category of tool, it says what to look for and why — not that we bought and tested each one.
Corrections
Woodworking guidance can be wrong in ways that cost money or cause injury, so corrections are taken seriously here. If a dimension does not work, a step is missing, a safety note is too casual, or something has gone out of date, tell us which page and what you found using the contact form. We check it, fix it, and the page shows the date it was last revised.
